Outback Legend (3c Australia - Althania, by Street Cry) gained a first win when rallying gamely at Haydock on Thursday. The Australia colt built on a midfield debut effort in April when third at Chester this month, and he duly progressed again to score for trainers Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole. Ridden by Rossa Ryan, the three-year-old settled in midfield and made headway from three furlongs out. Outback Legend was asked to close again with a furlong left to run and led inside the final 110 yards to score by a length. Insole said: "I thought he ran two great runs over ten furlongs - probably his bare minimum trip. We were a bit worried about the ground and Rossa [Ryan] came in and said it's jumps ground out there. "I think he did this on pure ability today, he was still very green behind the bridle and Rossa said he's still learning. He's a horse with a big future and I think he'll keep progressing. He's hopefully a Melrose horse in the making." Outback Legend was bred by Golden Farm Bloodstock.
