Radiant Beauty (5m Churchill - Main Desire, by High Chaparral) picked up her first black-type win with a battling victory in the Listed Pipalong Stakes at Pontefract on Tuesday. The James Owen-trained mare had run out a comfortable winner at Ascot two starts previously before running midfield at Royal Ascot. She bounced out of that run with a neck success over the fast-finishing Crystal Flyer. Ridden by James Doyle, the daughter of Churchill made all and asserted over a furlong out. She was challenged inside the final 110 yards but kept on to claim a valuable win. Owen said: “It was fantastic to get black type with her and to win as well. She was good with James at Ascot when she won in May and made the running that day and it looked like she got an easy lead. “However, last time at Royal Ascot she was drawn in the middle and then had to work to come across and it just didn’t work. “The big occasion got to her a little bit then as well, but she was very well behaved today and even though she got taken on for the lead she did really well to battle it out. “She’s a really strong filly and still developing. I think she’ll keep progressing as the season goes on and she will love a bit of autumn ground as well.” Radiant Beauty was bred by Branton Court Stud and is a half-sister to last month’s Group 1 Commonwealth Cup runner-up and 2025 Listed winner Spicy Marg (by Starspangledbanner).
