Green Empress (2f Saxon Warrior - Sea Empress, by Sea The Stars) became the latest Group winner for her sire with a gritty win in the Group 2 Debutante Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. The Joseph O’Brien-trained filly had finished second on her two previous outings to subsequent Group 1 Phoenix Stakes winner and impressive Harry's Half Million scorer Sun Goddess (by Sioux Nation) and she was duly getting off the mark on her third start. Ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle, Green Empress was prominent against the far rail and was going well before waiting for room with a furlong left to run. The two-year-old switched left inside the final furlong and ran on well to lead towards the finish and score by a neck. O’Brien said: “Her form has worked out very well and Dylan gave her a lovely ride. “I’m really delighted for Prince Faisal to be able to be here. To win the Debutante is very special for us and for him.” “She had a bit of a setback after her last run so we thought that fitness-wise she probably would need the race today. She’ll probably come back here for the Moyglare.” McMonagle added: “That was exceptional and she’s a very exciting filly. Once I got out she responded so well. “She’s hit the line well and is definitely very exciting for her connections. She has always showed us plenty and we thought the seven furlongs would suit. “Hopefully she has a bright future. She has loads of speed and gets the seven furlongs well, so the Moyglare would be a good fit for her.” Green Empress was bred by Sunderland Holding,
