Tawakal (2c Starspangledbanner - Balansiya, by Shamardal) became a new two-year-old winner for Starspangledbanner when justifying odds-on favouritism at Nottingham on Friday. The Simon and Ed Crisford-trained newcomer raced prominently under James Doyle and the pair came through to take the lead two furlongs out. Despite showing signs of greenness, the colt asserted inside the final furlong to win by a comfortable length and three-quarters. Tawakal was bred by Scea J L C Et Al and he looks another smart juvenile prospect for his sire. Starspangledbanner’s two-year-olds of 2026 also include Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes winner Senorita Bonita and Cut A Dash, an impressive debut scorer at York in May and a close-up fourth in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot when last seen.
