Mawhibah (3f Australia - Bruxcalina, by Linamix) got off the mark with a gritty victory at Navan on Wednesday. The Joseph O’Brien-trained filly finished a length second on her most recent outing at Tramore last month and she duly went one better with a half-length score under Joey Sheridan. Mawhibah settled in midfield and was asked to close from three furlongs out, making headway on the outer with a furlong left to run. The three-year-old took up the lead towards the finish and proved game when winning by half a length. Sheridan said: “She had to do it the hard way, being drawn that wide in 22. I was able to get a tow from the fancied ones and she grabbed a hold of the bridle in the straight, so hopefully there's more improvement in her. Her stamina came to the fore in the last furlong, coming up the hill. “We went a good even tempo which suited and she was able to show her stamina." Mawhibah was bred by Al Jeryan Stud.
