Verney Fox (4g Crystal Ocean - Cuteasafox, by Vinnie Roe) made an impressive debut under rules when storming clear in the bumper at Ffos Las on Thursday. The four-year-old had finished a three-quarter-length second on his sole start in a point-to-point at Tullaherin in April, making up plenty of ground to just be denied. He subsequently sold to Hamish Macauley for €145,000 at the Goffs Punchestown Sale. Trained by Paul Nicholls, Verney Fox settled in second early on under Freddie Keighley, taking up the lead from two furlongs out. The pair were going easily and came home 12 lengths clear at the line. A half-brother to Grade 2-winning chaser Firefox and Grade 2-placed hurdler Foxy Walk, both by Walk In The Park, Verney Fox was bred by Grange Stud.
