Par Avion (5g Crystal Ocean - Fairey Delta, by Milan) gained his first win under rules with a clear-cut victory in the bumper at Newton Abbot on Wednesday. The Harry Fry-trained gelding was building on two promising efforts last season, including when second at Taunton in February. Ridden by Bryan Carver, the son of Crystal Ocean was prominent early on and came to take up the lead with a furlong left to run. He came home readily to defeat Straw Merchant (by Walk In The Park) by three and a quarter lengths, with Storm Cracker (by Order Of St George) in third. Par Avion was bred by the late Lady Cobham.
