Corway (4g Vadamos - Keeper's Ring, by Street Cry) gained his first win when landing the concluding bumper at Downpatrick on Saturday. The Eoin Doyle-trained gelding was making his second start, having finished midfield at Kilbeggan last month. He duly stepped forward from that outing to post a pleasing victory under Paddy Cody. Corway was positioned towards the rear of the field and made headway from three furlongs out to go into fourth spot. He went into second in the final furlong and ran on well to strike by three-quarters of a length at the line. Cody said: “He was very green the first time up, but one thing he did was gallop the whole way to the line. “I knew today, if he was running on coming up the hill, that he would finish out very strong, which he did. The way he stayed on the last day when he was just very green, I had no issues about the trip today. “He has a great attitude, tries very hard, and hopefully he’s a nice horse going forward. “He's still quite a green horse and, even throughout today, he was changing legs. He probably didn't handle the track fully. When he met the rising ground, he didn't half pick up. “He's a big baby and you probably won't see the best of him until next year.” Corway was bred by Xaldene Ltd.
