Martymill (5g Getaway - Emcon, by Vinnie Roe) gained a first victory when running out a wide-margin winner of the concluding bumper at Downpatrick on Sunday. Trained by Anthony McCann, the son of Getaway had finished runner-up at Listowel in June and was going one better on his second outing since that effort. Martymill was ridden by Aine O'Connor and the pair were in touch with the leaders before pressing for the lead with three furlongs left to run. The five-year-old went clear inside the final furlong to strike by 11 lengths. In third was Loves A Laugh (by Vadamos). O'Connor said: "[A] lovely, strong performance. He's wearing cheekpieces and that might be deemed to be ungenuine - he's actually not, he's just very immature. "To be honest, he's just improved with every run. He's a nicer-ground horse, which we got today. "He actually tends to be a little bit funny in a bigger field, so everything went right for him today. Small fields suit him. We went a nice gallop, and he gave me a great feel. "Anthony had him in tip-top form and he bounced him out quick. It was a great training performance, if anything. "He's a nice horse and he absolutely will [build upon that], he's built upon every run bar one or two where he has had excuses. He's one to look forward to." Martymill was bred by Mr T A Austin.
