Siege Of Carthage (6g Getaway - May Dullea, by King’s Theatre) got off the mark at the first attempt over hurdles with a wide-margin win at Limerick on Thursday. The Josh Halley-trained gelding had finished second in a Gowran Park bumper in March on his first outing under rules and was progressing again having run fifth at Wexford late last month. Ridden by Phillip Enright, the son of Getaway led and pressed the leader when headed at the fourth. He regained the lead after the eighth hurdle and was left clear with two flights left to jump, pulling readily clear to score by 20 lengths. Enright said: “He’s a fine big horse, he was always nice since he was younger but just has had a few problems. They nursed him back and he had a lovely run in a bumper in Gowran the last day, where Aine Connolly gave him a beautiful ride and said he’d come on a lot from it. “He'd run in a point-to-point [in 2024] and had a lot of schooling done so we were hoping he’d run a good race. I’m not sure what they’ll do now as Josh is a seller but he’ll have no problem jumping fences too.” Siege Of Carthage was bred by Kevin Dillon.
