Chilean G1 Trifecta for Practical Joke
Practical Joke’s worldwide success continued Saturday in Chile when El Oriente (2c Practical Joke x Oshawa, Scat Daddy) led home a trifecta for the stallion in the Group I Clasico Tanteo de Potrillos.
Already a Group II winner, El Oriente was angled to the rail soon after the break in the 7 ½ furlong race where he bided his time in midpack until they hit the stretch. The two leaders ran down the center, laving plenty of room for El Oriente and fellow Practical Joke runner Coronado to take over.
While El Oriente left Coronado over a length behind by the line, that colt had to work harder for his own placing with Practical Joke’s Mbagnick running late to finish just a head back in third.
Bred by Haras Paso Nevado, the colt is trained by Juan Pablo Baeza.
He is one of three winners out of Scat Daddy’s Group III winner and Group I-placed Oshawa, who is a full sister to Group II-placed Ostentador and half-sister to the group placed duo of Oradora and Orsa.
El Oriente’s record now its at four wins and a second in five career starts.
Practical Joke has nine worldwide stakes winners and five graded stakes winners with 20 stakes performers – 11 of those coming in North America.
