Munnings Fillies On Top at Fasig-Tipton New York

It was a huge Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Yearlings Sale for Munnings this week as the only stallion to have two yearlings in the top five spots on the leaderboard.

The stallion’s most expensive was the most expensive filly of the sale when Preferred Equine snapped her up for $340,000 from Denali Stud. The Old Tavern Farm-bred filly is out of the Malibu Moon mare To The Moon Alice, who is a half-sister to Grade II Mother Goose winner Unchained Melody.

“She was a standout individual in the sale,” said Wesley Ward, who signed on behalf of Preferred Equine. “She made Ben McElroy's short list, so I came over to look at her. She is the sale topper so far for fillies, so there were a lot of people interested in her. Ben is a great judge of a horse and we were happy he tipped us off and we got her. She looked like the best filly that we saw in the sale.”

To The Moon Alice is the dam of one winner from two to race and is a half-sister to the dam of the stakes placed J C’s a Legend and out of Grade III winner Love Match.

Love Match is one of three stakes performers for her own dam with that group including 19-time winner and stakes winner Love That Magic.

Munnings was also the sire of the second highest priced filly when Niall Brennan purchased a filly out of Freudie Anne for $325,000 on behalf of Jr International Holdings.

“She's a very, very good Munnings,” Brennan said. “He's a great stallion–doesn't matter if it's fillies, colts, turf or dirt. The mare was excellent. They do a great job at Hunter Valley, they raced the mare and they raised this filly. I thought she would be expensive, obviously this is what people are stepping up to do now.”

Offered by Hunter Valley Farm and bred by Fergus Galvin, Marc Detampel, Jayne Johnson, and Adrian Wallace, the filly’s dam is a multiple stakes winner and the dam of Munnings’s two-time winner Eddie The Great. Freudie Anne herself is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Frostie Anne and four other winners from six to race out of Lake Toccet.

Freudie Anne produced a filly by four-time Grade I winner Tiz The Law earlier this year.

Munnings is having another top year with 10 stakes winners and 24 stakes performers, putting him in the top six in both categories on the General Sires list.
