Kyprios (Galileo) Wins The Irish St Leger For A Second Time

Seventh Group 1 Success For Incredible Kyprios

The market rated Kyprios (6h Galileo – Polished Gem, by Danehill) a sure winner of the Irish St Leger and Aidan O’Brien’s star stayer justified the support, as he ran out a comfortable winner under Ryan Moore.

Successful in the 2022 edition and runner-up last year, the son of Galileo came into Sunday’s renewal with an unbeaten record this season, led by a pair of Gorup 1 wins by a combined five lengths. Settled in second, he was pushed along to lead passing the three furlong pole and victory looked likely therafter, as he stayed on well to score by two and a quarter lengths.

“Kyprios is so special,” O’Brien said of the now seven-time Group 1 winner. “With the Ascot Gold Cup, very few horses are able to stay that far, but this horse has serious class as well. He's so genuine. To get through what he did and still be the way he is, it's incredible. He's one in a million.”

Kyprios was applauded as he crossed the winning line and to the delight of fans, co-owner Eva Maria Bucher-Haefner of Moyglare Stud later said she “would love to see him race again next year.”

Before then, the Arc remains a possibility for Kyprios, who is owned by breeder Moyglare Stud Farm with Coolmore partners and Westerberg.
