Tuesday Becomes Third Breeders Cup Winner For Ballydoyle
Epsom Oaks heroine Tuesday (3f Galileo - Lillie Langtry, by Danehill Dancer) returned to her brilliant best in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, to provide Aidan O’Brien with his third win of the meeting.
A gallant third in the 1,000 Guineas on just her third career start, the daughter of Galileo went one place better in the Irish equivalent, before triumphing at Epsom. Later runner-up to the five-year-old Alpinista in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks, she dropped back to nine and a half furlongs at Keeneland, where Ryan Moore positioned the bay in midfield.
Shaken up at the two furlong pole, she had four lengths to make up a furlong later, but ran on strongly to lead close home, going on to score by a length from dual Grade 1 winner In Italian.
“It was very straightforward,” Moore said after the race. “I was always confident and she quickened up really well. Aidan had her in an unbelievable place today and the horses have been magnificent this weekend - they have all year - and this filly has bounced back.”
The Coolmore homebred’s achievements are made even more impressive by her birth date of June 3rd, which meant she turned three on the day that she captured the Epsom Oaks. She is one of three Classic winners by Galileo out of dual Group 1 winner Lillie Langtry (Danehill Dancer), whose two-year-old Delightful (Galileo) got off the mark at Leopardstown last month.
