Howling Wolf (Footstepsinthesand) winning at Leopardstown

Another 2YO Winner For Footstepsinthesand

Footstepsinthesand’s 2YOs are in flying form with 3 new winners since Tuesday. The latest came at Leopardstown yesterday evening as Howling Wolf (2c Footstepsinthesand- Aussie Opera by Aussie Rules) showed the benefit of his promising Curragh debut to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden (pictured) in good style for owner/breeder Danny Coogan.

Always close to the pace and travelling well, he pressed the leader 2f out and when asked to challenge in the straight he picked up nicely and stayed on gamely to the line.

Trainer Tony Mullins commented “Howling Wolf is a nice colt. He has a very good mind and he can take hard training no problem. We might step him up in grade now, maybe to the Group 2 here on Champions Weekend.”

On Wednesday evening at Killarney, the Ger Lyons Trained Baby Zeus (2g Footstepsinthesand - Reine De Coeur by Montjeu) won the 2YO maiden at Killarney on debut for Ray Grehan. Despite showing signs of greenness early on, he picked up well in the style of a smart horse, defeating a well-fancied colt from the Ballydoyle stable. Baby Zeus was bred by Mr Patrick McCormack.

Assistant trainer Shane Lyons said afterwards "We know he has an engine but is not cooked yet and isn't ready but in a month's time he'll be ready. Ours improve anyway and he'll improve for that. It's a big thrill for his owner Ray Grehan too as he owned the dam and owns (a sister) Lagostovegas. He is a Galway man who lives locally and it's great to have a horse for him and they're after getting some thrill out of this."

Singe Anglais (2g Footstepsinthesand - Callanish by Inchinor) got the ball rolling at Beverley on Tuesday afternoon with a win in the 5 furlong Novice Auction Stakes for Nigel Tinkler. Singe Anglais was bred by Knocktartan House Stud.
