Footstepsinthesand Filly Flies Home In Italian Oaks
Tomiko (3f Footstepsinthesand – Testimony, by Lawman) came from last to first to capture the Group 2 Oaks d’Italia at San Siro on Sunday.
The Paolo Aragoni-trained filly finished third in the Group 2 Premio Dormello at the end of last season and stepped up to a mile and three furlongs for the first time at the weekend. Silvestre de Sousa settled the bay at the back of the field and was last with three furlongs left to race. Making good headway by a furlong later, she chased down the leaders approaching the final furlong and stayed on well to lead close home.
Described by Aragoni as “a classy filly,” Tomiko is owned by Luigi Ginobbi and was bred by Awbeg Stud. She becomes the 38th individual Group winner by Footstepsinthesand, who is responsible for 150 Stakes performers in total.
