Australia Colt Is Leger Bound After Impressive Listed Win
Galileo Chrome (3c Australia - Curious Mind, by Dansili) continues to go from strength to strength and produced a career best performance in winning Saturday’s Listed Yeats Stakes at Navan.
Unbeaten in two starts this season, the Joseph O’Brien-trained colt was sent off favourite as he stepped up to a mile and five furlongs. Chasing the leaders under Shane Crosse, he was travelling eye-catchingly well when looming up to join the leaders two furlongs from home. Ridden out to lead, he drew clear in the final furlong and scored by five lengths on the line.
Assistant trainer Brendan Powell was understandingly delighted with the winner’s performance, saying, “Please God he's a proper horse. He's got a massive future. He's answered a lot of questions today - he stays well and he's got enough speed to go a mile and a quarter as well. Would he be a Leger horse? Please God he keeps going the right way. The world's his oyster at the minute.”
The Mohammed Ali Meddeb-bred colt becomes a sixth Listed winner by dual Derby hero Australia, who is responsible for another eight individual Group winners.
