Australia Colt Wins Competitive Maiden At First Attempt

The Fozzy Stack-trained Mohican Heights (2c Australia - Mohican Princess, by Shirley Heights) made all to win on debut at Leopardstown on Friday evening.

Owned by David Greathouse II and Jules Sigler, the chesnut colt faced ten rivals in the seven furlong maiden and was driven to maintain the advantage entering the straight. Staying on well in the closing stages, he held off fellow newcomer Lil Grey (Starspangledbanner) to win by a length and a quarter.

Winning jockey Chris Hayes commented after the race, “Mohican Heights is a nice colt. He had a good draw and Fozzy was adamant that we should go forward. He's been showing us plenty at home but he's still very raw. He could be a nice horse.”

Deuce Greathouse bought Mohican Heights for €100,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale from Ballybin Stud, who consigned on behalf of breeder Kevin Molloy. He is closely related to multiple Stakes winner Eye Of The Storm (Galileo), one of five Stakes horses produced by their dam, Mohican Princess.
