Barefoot takes G2 for Footsteps
The Richard Fahey-trained Barefoot Lady (4f Footstepsinthesand-Lady Angharad, by Tenby) starred at Woodbine in Canada on Saturday when winning the G2 Canadian Stakes.
Last season the gutsy Footsteps filly won the G3 Nell Gwyn Stakes and finished third in the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and she put in a polished performance to land the nine-furlong Woodbine event by a length and a half under Davey Moran.
“I had a great trip. I just moved her out and it was all over from there. She finished strong to the wire, and she had it in the bank,” an elated Moran told woodbineentertainment.com. “It was a perfect trip. I was happy I was behind (jockey) Luis (Contreras, aboard Laughing). I thought he was the horse to bring me into the race, anyway. Then, I just got her out right on the turn and from there it was over, really.”
Moran was a late replacement for jockey Jamie Spencer and Fahey’s assistant Alyson Deniel added: “It worked out perfectly, to be honest. Davey is proven on the turf. He gave a great ride on the German horse (Lacara) the other day and did the same job today.”
Barefoot Lady, who was bred by Arbawny Ventures, is likely to return to Woodbine on October 14 for the G1 E P Taylor Stakes.
