Big future for Galileo colt Chamonix
Lightly-raced Chamonix (3c Galileo-L’Ancresse, by Darshaan) looked a highly-exciting prospect when winning at the Listowel Festival on Wednesday.
The Galileo colt, who had scored in Listed company on his previous run, stormed away with Listed Edmond and Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes by three and three-quarter lengths under Joseph O’Brien, who predicted a big future for his mount.
“He's a tough horse and he tries hard. He handled the ground but I think he'll be a better horse on a bit nicer ground. He's a horse going places,” said O’Brien. “I think he'll be a much better horse next year. He's quite big and raw still and quite leery and lazy. He has the cheekpieces on and is still a bit immature. He's a lovely horse and he's improving.”
Meanwhile, Galileo enjoyed another Classic success on Sunday when Altano (6g Galileo-Alanda, by Lando) took the G3 Deutsches St Leger at Dortmund.
