Chachamaidee stars in Goodwood G2 for Footsteps
The fantastic mare Chachamaidee (5m Footstepsinthesand-Canterbury Lace, by Danehill) looked better than ever when starring in the G2 Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Tuesday.
The Sir Henry Cecil-trained Footstepsinthesand mare, who was bred by Cheval Court Stud, took the seven-furlong contest in hugely impressive fashion under Tom Queally in the colours of locally-based owner Tony Evans, who is hoping a Group 1 victory might now come her way.
“This mare has been fantastic and it’s great to have a winner at Glorious Goodwood,” said Evans. “Chachamaidee won here last year when taking the G3 Oak Tree Stakes on the Friday. Now she’s won a Group 3 and a Group 2 so it would be nice to win a Group 1 - she has plenty of entries and I’ve spoken to Sir Henry about possibilities, but I’ll leave the decisions to him.”
Queally added: “She was just a little bit slowly away. She was a bit unlucky at Ascot over a mile but, over seven furlongs, it’s nice that we finally hit the bullseye.
“They went a lovely gallop and it suited me. She quickened up nicely, she has got a great turn of foot, and it’s always nice to get winners like this at these sorts of meetings. Fillies have a bad enough record in this race, so it was nice for a mare like her to win it.”
