Daughter Of Australia Impresses On Debut

The Joseph O’Brien trained Altair (3f Australia - Eccentricity, by Kingmambo) produced a terrific turn of foot to make a winning debut at Dundalk on Friday.

Bred by Whisperview Trading and carrying the silks of Ann Marie O’Brien, the chestnut filly was ridden by champion apprentice Shane Crosse. Racing towards the back of the 14 horse field for much of the seven furlong maiden, she was last turning for home and it was not until the two furlong marker that the penny dropped, on which she quickened impressively. Racing past her rivals, Altair won by half a length, with the more experienced Paris Duvet and Mischiffie taking second and third respectively.

Altair also excites on pedigree, being a half-sister to Irish 1,000 Guineas Trial runner-up Radiantly, who also finished fourth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot. By a son of Galileo and out of a Kingmambo mare, she is bred on a similar cross to Epsom Derby hero Ruler Of The World (Galileo) and champion three-year-old Camelot (Montjeu).

Australia’s exciting first crop also includes dual Group winner Beyond Reason, as well as three Group 1 placed horses in Broome, Sydney Opera House and Western Australia. All four hold Classic entries and 2019 looks like an exciting season for their young sire.
