Footstepsinthesand Colt Claims Doha Group 2
The Jerome Reynier-trained Marianafoot (4c Footstepsinthesand - Marianabaa, by Anabaa) made a successful trip to Doha to capture the Group 2 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cup on Friday.
The chestnut colt faced 11 seasoned rivals in the mile contest and was ridden in midfield by Pierre-Charles Boudot. Coming with a strong run in the final two furlongs, he passed longtime leader Top Face in the final 100 metres and continued to hold off locally-trained challenger Black Granite to score by a neck on the line.
This was a second Stakes success for Jean-Claude Seroul’s homebred, who landed the Listed Prix Luthier at Deauville in December. Seroul followed a proven formula in breeding Marianafoot, with his dam Marianabaa being a half-sister to multiple winner Genopi, also by Footstepsinthesand.
Marianafoot’s Group 2 win comes off the back of a fantastic 2018 season for Footstepsinthesand, with Larchmont Lad’s Group 2 win in the Minstrel Stakes and Marie’s Diamond’s Group 3 victory in the Anglesey Stakes.
