Footstepsinthesand Filly Flies To Maiden Victory
Deep Impression (2f Footstepsinthesand - Parvenue, by Ezzoud) produced a late challenge to gain her maiden victory at the second time of asking at Beverley on Tuesday.
Fifth on debut earlier in the month, the Mark Johnston-trained bay stepped up in trip to seven and a half furlongs on her latest start and the manner of her win would suggest greater improvement over further. Tracking the leader under Joe Fanning, she was asked to quicken from two furlongs out and switched left approaching the final furlong. Racing on well to lead close home, she won by a neck on the line, as the front pair raced three lengths clear of the favourite in third.
Successful in the colours of Kingsley Park, Deep Impression was bred by John Nagle and becomes the eighth winner out of the mare. Her win provides an important update for her yearling sister from the first crop of Highland Reel.
