Footstepsinthesand's 2YOs made a good start to year with Marie Mancini (2f Footstepsinthesand - Sees, by Le Havre) justifying favouritism in Sunday’s maiden at Lyon, the second 2YO race of the year.

Fabrice Vermeulen’s representative raced prominently under Maxime Guyon and was asked to quicken approaching the two furlong marker. Quickening well under pressure, she ran on gamely to lead by a short head on the line, as Aquila Volante (Gleneagles) completed a 1-2 for Castlehyde Stud sires.

Owned by Ecurie MG, Marie Mancini was bred by Ecurie de Launay, Vanessa Teehan and Ecurie Vivaldi Rock. She kicks off what could be a fine season for Footstepsinthesand’s juveniles, with this crop being bred off the back of Threat’s pair of Group 2 wins and Mums Tipple’s recording-breaking sales race success.
