Footstepsinthesand Juvenile Gains Back-To-Back Wins
Governor Of Punjab (2c Footstepsinthesand - Simla Bibi, by Indian Ridge) battled gamely to land Tuesday’s seven furlong Novice Stakes at Brighton.
A promising fifth on debut in June, the Mark Johnston-trained colt made a successful step up to seven furlongs next time out and as a result, was sent off favourite for his third start. Following the proven formula of his maiden win, he made all of the running and was pushed along from two furlongs out by Franny Norton. Two rivals bore down on him approaching the final furlong, but the chestnut would not relinquish his advantage, digging deep to prevail by a nose on the line, as the first three drew seven lengths clear.
Owned by Rob Ferguson, Governor Of Punjab was bred by Mrs Joan Murphy and is a half-brother to Listed performers Emerald Wilderness and Ooh Aah Camara (Danehill Dancer).
