Footstepsinthesand Juvenile Scores On Debut

The David Evans-trained Chasanda (2f Footstepsinthesand - Miss Chamanda, by Choisir) impressed when making a winning debut in Monday’s five furlong Novice Stakes at Windsor.

Tracking the leader under Tom Marquand, the chestnut filly asserted before the final furlong and was driven out to score by two and a half lengths. It was a slight case of deja vu for connections, with Evans having also trained her dam for owner/breeder E.A.R. Morgans to win a five furlong maiden at Windsor in April of her two-year-old career.

Her sire, Footstepsinthesand, was of course, a talented two-year-old, with his unbeaten career kickstarted by a winning debut and Group 3 juvenile success. He was retired after his only three-year-old start; a comprehensive victory in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Choisir is showing great promise as a broodmare sire, with his daughters producing the likes of Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner My Dream Boat, multiple Group 1 winner Winter (Galileo) and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes heroine Persuasive.
