Future Is Bright For Footstepsinthesand’s Latest Winner
Richard Hannon described Mums Tipple (2c Footstepsinthesand - Colomone Cross, by Xaar) as “a very nice colt” after the chesnut made a winning debut in the six furlong maiden at Ascot on Friday.
Oisin Murphy made all aboard the Marian Lyons and Patricia Zanelli-owned colt, racing two lengths clear approaching the final furlong. His rivals bore down inside the final furlong, as Mums Tipple stuck his head out to score by a neck.
Hannon commented after the race, “I think it's a very good race, there's been a lot of talk for a lot of horses there. He's done it the hard way making the running but he hit the gate well, he was in front for a long way so he's probably wanted the line. He's got a lot of scope.”
Bred by Abbey Bloodstock, Mums Tipple was bought by Peter and Ross Doyle as a yearling for £45,000. He becomes the first winner out of his dam, a half-sister to Listed winner Gwaihir and black-type sprinter Mombassa.
