G1 success for Footsteps mare
Chachamaidee (5m Footstepsinthesand-Canterbury Lace, by Danehill) gave Footstepsinthesand a G1 success at Leopardstown on Saturday evening when awarded the G1 Matron Stakes.
The admirable mare, who was bred at Cheval Court Stud, boasted two G3 and one G2 success for trainer Henry Cecil before lining up at Leopardstown and - after finishing a short-head behind Duntle - she was given the race in the stewards’ room.
“You’re always biased towards your own animal. I felt quite strongly though and expressed my views (to the stewards),” jockey Tom Queally told rishracing.com. “It's not the way you like to win but it was a well-deserved win for Chachamaidee. It wasn't an easy decision for anyone (the stewards) but I think they've got it right here. I had intentionally come wide to avoid all the scrimmaging.”
