Improving Footstepsinthesand Colt Gains Maiden Win
Sam Langford (3g Footstepsinthesand - The Silver Kebaya, by Rock Of Gibraltar) continued on an upward curve when justifying favoritism with ease in Wednesday’s mile maiden at Bellewstown.
Trained by Kevin Prendergast and carrying his wife's colours, the chestnut was last seen finishing a close second at Leopardstown over the same distance, having previously shown promise on debut when third. Chris Hayes took the ride on his third start, positioning his mount behind the leaders and began to improve over two furlongs out. Soon leading, he was pushed out to extend his advantage to three and a half lengths on the line.
Speaking after the race, Prendergast said, “Sam Langford is a lovely straightforward horse. He was a shade unlucky last day and he has improved. He took a while to pull up.”
Prendergast bought Sam Langford as a yearling at Tattersalls Ireland for €60,000. Bred by Morna McDowall, he is the first foal out of the mare and provides a nice update for his yearling half-sister by War Command.
