Katiba Becomes The Latest Winner By Footstepsinthesand

Juvenile Winners Keep Rolling In For Footstepsinthesand

The list of two-year-old winners by Footstepsinthesand continues to grow, with Katiba (2f Footstepsinthesand - Katiola, by Oratorio) becoming the latest addition on Sunday.

The Dermot Weld-trained newcomer raced towards the back of the field for most of the mile maiden and began making headway from two furlongs out under Oisin Orr. She ran on well under pressure to lead inside the final furlong and denied Gin Blossom by a head on the line, with another half a length back to Persian Queen (Ivawood).

Speaking after the race, Weld said, “Katiba is a lovely big filly. We might leave it at that for this year, but she's a big filly and one to look forward to for next year.”

An Aga Khan homebred, Katiba is out of a half-sister to Group 2 winner and Epsom Oaks third Katiyra (Peintre Celebre).
