Larchmont seals Curragh Group-race double for Footsteps
Footstepsinthesand completed a brilliant Group race double at the Curragh on Saturday when Larchmont Lad (4c Footstepsinthesand-Fotini, by King's Best) prevailed in the G2 Minstrel Stakes.
Trained by David O’Meara for Cheveley Park Stud, the four-year-old made all to finish in front of stablemate So Beloved in the seven-furlong contest.
“I'm glad Larchmont Lad did it for Cheveley Park,” said O’Meara. "He was unlucky when he came over here last year and won and subsequently lost it in the stewards room.
"He's a very straightforward horse and he's tough. I gave James (Doyle) a free hand to do what he wanted and he gave him a fantastic ride. I'll speak to Chris Richardson, who manages all the horses for Cheveley Park and see what he wants to do now.”
Doyle added: “It has worked out beautifully. That was the plan really (to make all), I couldn't see much pace on paper. He popped the lids very well and pricked his ears in front which is a big help."
Bred by Domenico Fonzo, Larchmont Lad realised €110,000 as a yearling. He was winning a race after Marie’s Diamond (2c Footstepsinthesand-Sindiyma, by Kalanisi) prevailed in the G3 Anglesey Stakes.
