Newmarket celebrates Australia day
Buyers at Europe’s final yearling auction of 2017, as they had at sales in previous weeks, took a shine to the first crop of the brilliant Australia on Monday.
The son of Galileo was responsible for another two six-figure youngsters at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale to add to his highly-prized offerings sold earlier in the autumn at the major auction venues.
Heading the way on Monday was a 150,000gns colt (pictured) out of Acclamation’s daughter Sweepstake offered from Denis and Joan Brosnan’s Co Limerick-based Croom House Stud.
MV Magnier struck the successful bid and commented: "He is a very nice horse and comes from a very good breeder and nursery in Denis Brosnan's Croom House Stud. Let's hope he is as good as some of those we've bought from the farm in the past - we're just glad to get such a lovely horse.”
Another Australia fan was Yohann Gaiche of Japan-based DMM.com who paid 130,000gns for a colt out of the Averti mare Azeema, a sibling to Al Kazeem,
The colt was offered from Oakgrove Stud and farm manager David Hilton said: “He is a lovely, correct horse, with a big athletic walk. I am very happy with what he made and is from the best family that the stud has produced. Best of luck to his new owners.”
