Progressive Fillies Complete Footstepsinthesand Double
Brostaigh (2f Footstepsinthesand - Coachella, by Danehill) completed a double for Footstepsinthesand at Dundalk on Friday evening when justifying favouritism in the six furlong fillies maiden under Declan McDonogh.
Racing prominently throughout, Joseph O’Brien’s charge was pushed along to lead approaching the final furlong and kept on well to score by a neck. Placed on three previous occasions, Mrs Anne Marie O’Brien’s homebred is closely related to Stakes performer Roicead (Giant’s Causeway).
Shortly beforehand, the improving Je T’ai Porte (3f Footstepsinthesand - Hasanza, by Mr Greeley) landed the fillies mile maiden by a length and a quarter under Ronan Whelan.
A close second over course and distance last month, the Michael Halford-trained bay was sent off favourite and raced towards the back of the field in the early stages. Ridden from two furlongs out, she led inside the final furlong and ran on well to the line.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “She enjoys that surface and I think she could be a filly that could be versatile trip wise as well. I think her best days are ahead of her.”
Owned by Mrs Louise Halford, the daughter of Footstepsinthesand was bred by John O’Dwyer out of a half-sister to the highly-rated Hasanour (Giant’s Causeway).
