Progressive Gleneagles Filly Captures Ribblesdale Stakes
A fantastic season continued for Gleneagles at Royal Ascot, where Loving Dream (3f Gleneagles - Kissable, by Danehill Dancer) produced a career-best performance to land the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes for owner/breeder Lordship Stud.
The bay was travelling well under Robert Havlin as they turned for home and led early in the straight, running on well as her rivals did their best to narrow the gap. The winning margin was three parts of a length, as Eshaada ended her unbeaten run in second, while Nicest (American Pharoah) took third.
Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the December maiden winner made a promising start at Stakes level last month, despite being hampered inside the final furlong.
It was a dream result for Trevor and Libby Harris of Lordship Stud and Libby commented "We’ve never had a homebred Royal Ascot winner before. It has taken a long time to come so this is a very, very special moment. It was unbelievable really, the way she battled on, galloped, always quickened when the other horse came to her, she was so game and genuine, it’s just fantastic to see that."
Loving Dream becomes the first Group winner produced by Listed winner Kissable (Danehill Dancer), and an eighth individual Group winner by Gleneagles. Novemba, a wide margin winner of last month’s German 1,000 Guineas, was one of three Group winners by Gleneagles in May and takes her chance in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes on Friday.
