Son Of Footstepsinthesand Adds Group 1 To Winning Streak
Marianafoot (6h Footstepsinthesand - Marianabaa, by Anabaa) recorded an extraordinary eighth straight win, and his first at Group 1 level, when running out a commanding winner of the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.
Having spent the majority of 2020 on the sidelines, the Jerome Reynier-trained entire has proven a force to be reckoned with this season, and came into Sunday’s contest off the back of three straight Stakes wins.
Chasing the leaders under Mickael Barzalona, Jean-Claude Seroul’s homebred was shaken up at the two furlong marker and was ridden to lead inside the final furlong. Running on strongly, he drew a length and three quarters clear on the line.
Speaking after the race, the delighted winning trainer said, “I was sick to miss the chance to run him last year but he has made up for lost time this year. We’re looking at the Breeders' Cup Mile at the end of the year as his last race and the Foret would be a good target in between.”
Connections have another progressive type on their hands in Marianafoot’s three-year-old full-sister Marianasand (Footstepsinthesand), who won last season and finished a close fourth at Listed level last time out.
