Son Of Footstepsinthesand Races Clear On Return
The Richard Hughes-trained Crimson Sand (3g Footstepsinthesand - Crimson Sunrise, by Holy Roman Emperor) made an impressive return to action in Saturday’s five furlong maiden at Lingfield.
Badly hampered on debut in September, the bay was the subject of strong market support on return and was sent off favourite under Ryan Moore. Chasing the leaders, he was pushed along from halfway and quickened to lead a furlong out. Soon clear, he won by four lengths and three quarters with ease.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “This year he's been flawless and that was a good start. He was working well enough to go and win that so I'm delighted. We'll see what he gets, but he'll be better over six than five.”
Hughes purchased Crimson Sand as a yearling for 75,000gns and he now runs in the colours of Ms JA Wakefield.
That same afternoon at Cagnes-sur-Mer, the Henri-Alex Pantall trained Havoc (3c Footstepsinthesand - Chasing Stars, by Observatory) landed a Class 2 contest over a mile.
It marked a second course and distance win and third success overall for the colt, who is owned by Le Haras De La Gousserie and was bred by Sarl Darpat France
