With 22 Group winners, including five Gr.1 winners, in his first six crops aged 3+, Australia has been fulfilling the potential of his outstanding racing career and classic bloodlines. A son of Derby winner Galileo and exceptional Oaks winner Ouija Board, Australia landed the Derby and Irish Derby before adding the Juddmonte International.
DANZIG is back in the fifth generation of Australia’s foals’ pedigrees and several of his Group winners have a second line. His Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Order of Australia has a dam by DANEHILL and sons of DANEHILL are also playing a significant role. His first classic winner, Galileo Chrome, has a dam by DANSILI, while his 2024 Gr.2 Ribblesdale Stakes winner Port Fairy has a dam by FASTNET ROCK and the Gr.2 winner Epona Plays has a dam by ORATORIO. Australia’s sire Galileo excelled with FASTNET ROCK mares, siring nine BTWs (20%), including dual Gr.1 winner WARM HEART. Australia is also making his mark with mares by DANEHILL DANCER, siring the Gr.2 winners Sir Ron Priestly and Leo de Fury and Gr.3 winner Waipiro. DANEHILL DANCER mares have a tremendous 19% black-type winners with Galileo. Australia also has the Gr.3 winner Elounda Queen out of a MASTERCRAFTSMAN mare. There are also Group performers with dams by DYLAN THOMAS and DUKE OF MARMALADE.
Three of Australia’s Group winners - Buckhurst, Beyond Reason and Patrick Sarsfield - are respectively inbred 4x2, 4x3 and 4x4 to GREEN DESERT and he also has Listed winners out of daughters of OASIS DREAM and INVINCIBLE SPIRIT. Daughters of GREEN DESERT have produced 16% black-type winners to Galileo, including the Oaks winner Was. Five sons of Galileo - Frankel, Teofilo, Intello, Nathaniel and New Approach - have collectively sired an impressive total of nine Gr.1 winners from grand-daughters of GREEN DESERT, including Derby winner Masar. The broodmare sires involved are OASIS DREAM (5), CAPE CROSS, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, KHELEYF and DESERT STYLE.
Australia’s first two foals out of WAR FRONT mares are winners, including the classic-placed Adelaide River. Galileo has an excellent record with ANABAA mares, siring Bolshoi Ballet, Capri and Lush Lashes.
A branch of the Northern Dancer line which has enjoyed repeated classic success with Galileo is the one represented by STORM CAT. Galileo has 16 BTWs from 72 foals out of daughters of STORM CAT (22%) and no fewer than 9 of them are Gr.1 winners (13%). Teofilo sired a Gr.1 winner from a daughter of GIANTS CAUSEWAY. As Marvellous, Gleneagles and Joan of Arc are out of a sister to GIANT’S CAUSEWAY, this is an avenue well worth exploring. Sons of Galileo have two Gr.1 winners, two Gr.2 winners and a Gr.3 winner out of daughters of SHAMARDAL.
Australia is benefiting from mares with AHONOORA blood. He has made an impressive start with mares by ACCLAMATION, which create 5x4 to AHONOORA. From 20 foals he has sired the very smart brothers Broome and Point Lonsdale and Gr.3 winner Counterparty Risk. Three other sons of Galileo have Group winners from ACCLAMATION mares, the very smart Diego Velazquez being by Frankel. Daughters of DARK ANGEL are a likeable alternative. Galileo’s classic winners New Approach and Was respectively have a dam and a second dam by the top sprinter AHONOORA.
Another son of Galileo sired the brilliant Enable from a SADLER’S WELLS mare. Frankel, Teofilo and Gleneagles have all sired Gr.1 winners from daughters of MONTJEU, this being 3x3 to SADLER’S WELLS. They include winners of the Oaks and the Dewhurst Stakes. Australia’s American Gr.1 winner Ocean Road has a dam by THEATRICAL. He also has a Gr.2 winner with a dam by PEINTRE CELEBRE, three Listed winners out of PIVOTAL mares and two Group winners with second dams by NUREYEV. Galileo also excelled with this NUREYEV line, notably siring 14 BTWs from 47 foals out of PIVOTAL mares (30%). Frankel is also shaping up very well with daughters of PIVOTAL, with the top-class Cracksman and the classic-winning Nashwa among his five Gr.1 winners. New Approach sired the Oaks winner Talent from a PEINTRE CELEBRE mare.
Galileo and his sons have thrived with mares from the MILL REEF line, and Australia’s first classic winner, Galileo Chrome, has a second dam by DARSHAAN. Thanks to his smart son Bangkok, Australia is one of four sons of Galileo to have sired a Group winner from DARSHAAN mares.
Galileo excelled with the ROBERTO line, notably siring the King George and Eclipse winner Nathaniel, Great Heavens and Seville from daughters of SILVER HAWK. His partnership with INTIKHAB was tremendously effective, with five Group winners from 13 foals, including Arc winner Found.
The BLUSHING GROOM line suits Galileo and his sons. Australia sired the Gr.1 winner Mare Australis from a daughter of RAINBOW QUEST. RAHY sired the second dams of Galileo’s Gr.1 winners Decorated Knight, Marvellous, Gleneagles, Joan of Arc, Happily and Deauville. Frankel and Teofilo have both sired Gr.2 winners from daughters of RAHY, so mares with RAHY blood are recommended for Australia.
Australia has already sired the classic-placed Cayenne Pepper from a MR PROSPECTOR line mare, by GONE WEST’s son ELUSIVE QUALITY. The KINGMAMBO branch, via LEMON DROP KID and DUBAI DESTINATION, is recommended, as are mares by DUBAWI. Four sons of Galileo have Group winners out of daughters of DUBAWI, with Frankel and Teofilo having especially impressive records.
