Epsom Derby winner Australia has made an impressive start to his stallion career, with nine SWs from his first crop. His second crop is proving similarly effective, with seven SWs already including Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Order of Australia, classic winner Galileo Chrome and the Irish Oaks second Cayenne Pepper.
Three of Australia’s Group winners - Gr.2 2yo winner Beyond Reason, Buckhurst and Patrick Sarsfield - are respectively inbred 4x3, 4x2 and 4x4 to GREEN DESERT. This suggests that Australia will shine with mares by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT and OASIS DREAM or their sons. Daughters of GREEN DESERT have produced 14% Group winners to Galileo. Three sons of Galileo - Teofilo, Intello and New Approach - have already sired Gr.1 winners from grand-daughters of GREEN DESERT. OASIS DREAM mares have Group winners by Galileo and three of his sons.
Several of Australia’s Group winners have a second line of DANZIG. His Gr.1-winning miler Order of Australia has a dam by DANEHILL and numerous sons of DANEHILL are playing a significant role too. His first classic winner, Galileo Chrome, has a dam by DANSILI, and so do Listed winner King Carney and the Gr.1-placed 2yo Oodnadatta. His Gr.3 winner Epona Plays has a dam by ORATORIO and Australia is also making his mark with mares by DANEHILL DANCER siring classic-placed Sir Ron Priestly and Gr.2 winner Leo de Fury.
Galileo has 12 Group/Graded winners from 66 foals out of daughters of STORM CAT (21 per cent) and has classic winner Seventh Heaven from a mare by JOHANNESBURG. Teofilo, another son of Galileo, sired a Gr.1 winner from a daughter of GIANT’S CAUSEWAY. Frankel has Gr.1 and Gr.2 winners out of grand-daughters of STORM CAT.
Nathaniel, Galileo’s son, sired the brilliant Enable from a SADLER’S WELLS mare. Frankel and Teofilo both have Gr.1 winners from daughters of MONTJEU, this being 3x3 to SADLER’S WELLS. Oaks winner Anapurna is one of four Group winners by Frankel with SADLER’S WELLS inbreeding. New Approach has a 2YO Gr.1 winner inbred 2x3 to GALILEO.
Australia already has two Group winners with second dams by NUREYEV. Galileo has 11 Group winners from 39 foals out of PIVOTAL mares (28 per cent). Frankel is also shaping up well with PIVOTAL mares, notably siring Gr.1 winners Cracksman and Veracious.
Australia should be a natural for the MILL REEF line, and his first classic winner, Galileo Chrome, has a second dam by DARSHAAN. Thanks to his smart son Bangkok, Australia is one of three sons of Galileo to have sired a Group winner from DARSHAAN mares and he has also sired the Gr.2-placed Listed winner Mohican Heights from a SHIRLEY HEIGHTS mare. Galileo has sired Gr.1 winners from three generations of descendants from Mill Reef. MARK OF ESTEEM daughters are shining with Galileo’s sons, producing the likes of Permian, Ostilio, Ajman Princess and the Hong Kong star Exultant. A DAYLAMI mare produced the classic-winning Logician to Frankel.
Galileo is excelling with the ROBERTO line, notably siring Nathaniel, Great Heavens and Seville from daughters of SILVER HAWK. His partnership with INTIKHAB has been tremendously effective, with five Group winners from 11 foals, including Arc winner Found.
Galileo sired the Gr.1 winner Galikova from a BLUSHING GROOM mare and RAINBOW QUEST sired the second dams of Frankel, Noble Mission and Curvy. Australia is one of three sons of Galileo to have sired a SW from daughters of RAINBOW QUEST. Frankel and Teofilo have both sired Gr.2 winners from daughters of RAHY, and Teofilo’s 2020 Gr.1 winner Donjah has a dam by MT LIVERMORE.
Australia has already sired the classic-placed Cayenne Pepper from a MR PROSPECTOR line mare, by GONE WEST’s son ELUSIVE QUALITY. Galileo has numerous Gr.1 winners inbred to MR PROSPECTOR within four generations. Four sons of Galileo have Group winners out of DUBAWI mares.
AUSTRALIA is likely to benefit from mares with AHONOORA blood. He has made an impressive start with mares by ACCLAMATION, which create 5x4 to AHONOORA. From 6 foals he has sired the very smart Broome and a Listed-placed filly, and a 2019 brother to Broome sold for 575,000gns. Australia’s Gr.1-placed son Sydney Opera House has a second dam by AHONOORA, so is inbred 5x3. Galileo’s classic winner New Approach has a dam by this top sprinter. Both Galileo and Frankel have Gr.1 winners from INCHINOR mares.
The SHARPEN UP line is another guaranteed to suit Australia, as it has produced a classic winner to his sire Galileo and has enjoyed plenty of success with several other sons of Sadler’s Wells.
