Hurricane Lane to stand under the Coolmore National Hunt banner

Dual classic winner Hurricane Lane will stand under the Coolmore National Hunt banner for the coming season having been purchased from Godolphin this week.

The son of Frankel made a winning debut in a two-year-old maiden at Newmarket and went on to win six of his first seven starts, the only defeat coming in the Epsom Derby where he ran third despite losing both front shoes. In a fruitful three-year-old campaign he landed the Group 2 Dante Stakes over 1m2½f before reeling off three in succession at Group 1 level namely the Irish Derby, the Grand Prix de Paris (by six lengths (pictured)) and the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster. His final start at three saw him beaten only three quarters of a length in a strong renewal of the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe while earlier this season he notched up his fifth Group race success in the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket.

“Hurricane Lane is a very good-looking son of Frankel with plenty of scope and a good action,” said his trainer Charlie Appleby. “He showed a great constitution throughout his career and was a wonderful racehorse who gave us many great days.”

“We are delighted to get Hurricane Lane,” said Coolmore’s Cathal Murphy. “He’s a fine big, good-moving horse with a pedigree and race record to match. He’s one of the best sons of Frankel to date and comes from a leading Aga Khan family. His dam by Shirocco won a Listed race at Saint-Cloud and her half-sister Seal of Approval won a Group 1 on British Champions Day.”

Hurricane Lane was bred by Philippa Cooper’s Normandie Stud and was born and raised at Coolmore.
