Sommesky (Soldier Of Fortune) Wins A Bumper On Debut At Limerick

Soldier Of Fortune Sires Pair Of Debut Bumper Winners

Sommesky (5g Soldier Of Fortune – Mazaryne, by Protektor) became Soldier Of Fortune’s fourth smart winner of the day when justifying favouritism in Sunday’s bumper at Limerick.

The Henry de Bromhead-trained newcomer raced in touch under John Gleeson and was pushed along to lead inside the final furlong, going on to beat long-time leader A Tipp For Gold (Westerner) by two and a quarter lengths.

“Sommesky quickened really well,” the winning rider said. “We increased the pace plenty early and he did it well in the end. He has a lovely attitude and handled that ground well.”

The promising five-year-old is owned by Graiglore Limited and was bred by Ms Sally Bateson.

Over at Warwick, fellow newcomer Good And Clever (5g Soldier Of Fortune – Grangeclare Rosa, by Gamut) proved a class above his rivals when running out a wide margin winner of the bumper.

Ridden by James Bowen, Warren Greatrex’s charge made headway on the back straight and led on the turn for home. Clear approaching the final furlong, he went on to beat a well-backed previous winner by 12 lengths.

Owned by Velocity Racing, Good And Clever was bred by Longrove Stud and Jack Fogarty. Soldier Of Fortune had enjoyed a super start to the day with a pair of point-to-point maiden winners in Ireland.
