Westerner gets black type with first jumps runner

Westerner made the best possible start to his career as a jump stallion when Katkovana (3f Westerner-Kakira, by Cadoudal) scored a Listed hurdle event at Auteuil on her debut Friday. The filly, who was Westerner’s first jumps runner, faced 11 rivals in the Prix Listed Wild Monarch over a mile and seven furlongs and looks a bright prospect after landing the 1m 7f event for trainer Jean-Paul Gallorini. Katkovana, who was bred by Haras de Coudraies, is a sibling to several black-type jumping performers including the G1 winner Kotkita.
